Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg Photographed by Bert Stern for Vogue US, 1970

Shot by the photographer Bert Stern, Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg were both lovers and partners in crime at the beginning of their romance, in June 1970.

Je t’aime… moi non plus are words which still and always will echo the celebrated romance between Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg. For the June 1970 issue of Vogue US, Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg posed for Bert Stern, just a few years after he became the last photographer to shoot Marilyn Monroe before her death.

The black and white images capture the essence of the young couple’s romance. Photographed messing around, laughing or pretending to be serious, these two legends play around with poses overflowing with character.
